Wasper Chrome extension
Bring Wasper to browser audio
The extension is an optional companion for Chrome. It lets Wasper record browser tabs and send supported video links to the local Wasper app on your Mac for transcription.
Do you need it?
If you only dictate into Mac apps, you do not need the Chrome extension. The main Wasper app already handles normal dictation, AI Rewrite, translation, and History.
Install the extension when you want browser-specific workflows: recording a Chrome tab, optionally mixing in your microphone, or sending supported video links to Wasper without waiting for playback.
What it can do
- Record the current browser tab.
- Optionally include microphone audio after Chrome permission is granted.
- Transcribe supported YouTube video links without waiting for playback.
- Save completed transcripts into Wasper History.
Setup
- Install the latest Wasper app and keep it running.
- Install the Wasper Chrome extension from the official Chrome Web Store listing when it becomes available.
- Pin the Wasper extension in Chrome, then open YouTube or another browser tab.
- If Chrome asks to open Wasper, allow it so the extension can start the local transcription service.
Privacy and permissions
The extension talks to the Wasper app running on your Mac. Browser audio is transcribed by Wasper locally unless you explicitly choose cloud transcription in the app.
The extension is scoped to browser workflows. It is not required for normal Wasper dictation and does not give Wasper access to your full browsing history.
